Labor Day

Usually for Labor Day weekend we pack up and head up to Beaver to camp with my mom and two of my brothers.  This year, though, it just didn't work out.  I did miss the long weekend with family, but we got to see the usual suspects on Saturday when my nephew, Luke, and his family came to town after a ten year absence.  It was beyond wonderful to get to see him again and meet his wife and four kids.  We all did a lot of catching up and took a nice walk around Beaver to reminisce.

Sunday we headed to church and then ran some errands around West Des Moines, including a nice lunch out just the four of us.  Its always nice to go out to eat as a family and see how well our kids do.  Plus, eating out we have no temptation to turn the TV on or answer the phone.  We are pleasantly forced to enjoy each others' company and talk.  :-)

Today, we tackled our to do list.  To say we were busy would be the understatement of the year, but Brad and I are both feeling especially accomplished.  He taught a guitar lesson this morning and then we ran to Menards for a few things; cleaned the garage, including re-installing our shelving unit; cleaned every single room in the house, including dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping; did four loads of laundry; and still managed to get the kids bathed and to bed on time!  If I wasn't already exhausted writing that out would have done the trick!

So, our Labor Day was definitely labor intensive, but it was well worth it to know the house is sparkling and we are ready for another week.  A few of the items we accomplished have been sitting on my to-do list for a while now so its especially nice to get to mark them off.
