Mother's Day Weekend

We just finished up an amazing weekend and it just happens to have been Mother's Day to boot!

Friday when I picked everyone up from school I also picked up one of Sophia's friends for a sleepover.  The girls played outside while Brad and I put a whole bunch of stuff out on the curb for our city-wide clean up day and then we all headed inside to make homemade mini pizzas.  It doesn't matter what kid I'm feeding, this is always a hit with my own and guests alike!  After dinner we broke out the bounce house and let all three kids burn off some extra energy, then headed in for popcorn (with M&Ms, of course) and a movie.  All the kids stayed up later than normal, but went to sleep extremely well.  The girls camped out on Sophia's floor and Collin took the bed.

Saturday morning they actually let us sleep in until 8 and then we all got around and went to the Waukee Fire Department for breakfast, truck rides, and inflatables.  The food was good and the kids had an absolute blast!  We spent just over two hours wandering around.

After we came home and grabbed her stuff we took Sophia's friend home and headed out on some errands.  It seems so silly, but having a day to run errands without a time crunch seems so luxurious!  We went to the flower shop, church, and Menards at a nice leisurely pace.  Then we decided it wasn't worth going home for lunch so we headed over to The Machine Shed to eat.  Service was a bit slow, but the kids were awesome and the food was filling so nobody's complaining.  Finally we meandered over to Target to buy Sophia a backless booster.  She will still be tightly strapped into her five point harness for longer trips, but for trips around the metro she has proven to us that she is ready to sit properly without the harness.

We had debated stopping on our way back to Waukee to buy some flowers to plant, but Collin fell sound asleep and I try to avoid waking the beast whenever possible.  ;-)  So, on home to Waukee we went, where Sophia learned to ride her new bike completely on her own!  She can now go from start to stop without any help.  She was so proud of herself!!

Once Collin was awake we headed out on a walk to Fareway to grab hot dogs and S'more fixings for dinner.  We finally got to use our fire starters from our church youth group and they were AMAZING!  Light the wick, put them under the dry wood, and within minutes you have a full fire.  Life.changing!

Sunday we taught Sunday School, enjoyed church, and then headed up to surprise my mom for Mother's Day.  Not before I was treated to a brand new Yoga mat from Brad, though!  :-)  Its the most amazingly cushy thing, bright pink, and I don't have to worry about other people sweating on it.  Win-win.

After visiting with Mom for a few hours we headed back to Waukee, put on comfy clothes, and sent Brad out for Gusto pizza for my "fancy" Mother's Day dinner.  A nice end to a wonderful evening.
