On Saturday we once again headed out to South Padre Island to see a kite show. We got off to a slow start and then ran into lots of traffic so we took the long way around and ended up getting there right around lunch time. So, we spread out a blanket and had a parking lot picnic!
After filling up we headed over to see the kites. I have never in my life seen so many kites and there were so many different kinds. The kids had a blast watching them for about two minutes, then decided digging in the sand was much more fun! The three grownups really enjoyed the kites, though. 
Day 6:
Sunday we headed over to the flea market and farmer's market. We saw lots of neat stuff at the flea market, and ran into a guy who used to work for Farm Bureau, but only bought a couple items. The farmer's market was my favorite, though. I've never seen so much fresh food in such bright colors before. I could have spent all day wandering around trying samples! In the end we bough watermelon onions, tomatoes, avocados, a fresh pineapple that they cut for us, and some more oranges. The total was less than $10 even!! Can't beat that price for super fresh produce.
After the markets we stopped for a quick lunch and then went back for one last afternoon of swimming in the pool and driving borrowed golf carts around
Day 7:
Monday we didn't have anything planned so we decided to head back out to the island. We decided we wanted some Texas BBQ so stopped at Tejas Brew Pub and Smokehouse, which was my absolute favorite meal of the trip. The food was amazing!! After lunch we drove as far north as we could and had a good laugh at the "watch for sand drifts" signs. The sand really did drift across the road the way snow does in Iowa....pretty cool. Since the weather was warmer and there wasn't as much wind we spent a good amount of time wandering around the sand dunes and walking along the beach. Collin was content to hang out by the car with grandma while Sophia, Brad, and I explored. We even got to see a couple Portuguese man o' wars, which are nasty little things! We spent almost the entire afternoon just enjoying one last day at the beach and left just in time to snap a few tourist shots and head home for dinner.

This trip really was wonderful and I think we created lots of wonderful memories that at least Brad, my mom, and I will remember for a long time. Sophia loved it and can't wait to go on vacation again! The trip home was completely uneventful, with the kids flying just as well as they did on the trip out. We had curb-side serve from Ryan in Des Moines and made it home in time to get settled back in at home and ready to jump right back into our normal schedule.
