What a weekend we have had! It was honestly one of the best in recent memory, which is saying a lot!
We started out bright and early yesterday morning with Collin and I up at 6:30 am. He and I spent some quality time hanging out and then decided to make breakfast for our sleepyheads upstairs. While I was busy fixing the eggs Sophia came down to request breakfast in bed and when I said yes she promptly bounced back up the stairs to let Brad know. After we had our scrambled eggs, toast, and milk ready Collin and I happily took it up and we all had a picnic in the master bedroom.
After breakfast it was time to get ready for a trip to the zoo with the Larsons and Steffens. The plan was to be there at 9, but as always happens with two of the families (one of them mine) we were a few minutes late. It was an absolutely GORGEOUS morning for the zoo and we took our time meandering through, riding the train, camel, and carousel, and even playing at the park inside the petting zoo. The kids had a blast and it was neat to get to do some new things with them.
Once we were finished inside the zoo we all headed out to the picnic area and had lunch together. From there, our family headed to Target for some quick groceries and then came home to prep homemade pizza dough for some personal pizzas for dinner. After a good workout and quick shower we were ready to prep the toppings and wait for the Steffens to come join us for dinner. It has been so nice having them living close again and getting to randomly have dinner on a weekend!
This morning we started out bright and early again and were actually out the door on time for church. Considering we get there 45 minutes before the service starts its really not too bad if we are a few minutes behind schedule most weekends, though. The kids and I helped with fellowship and got a chance to visit with lots of friend and our pastor gave a wonderful sermon that really hit home for both Brad and I.
Since it was another beautiful day out we decided we needed to be outside. After some debate we decided to check out the bike trail that goes from Waukee through Dallas Center as we had never been on it before. After changing clothes and airing up bike tires we were off. The trail is roughly 7.3 miles each direction so we stopped once we hit DC and let the kids out to play a few rounds of tag and go on a "nature walk" trying to find fun things. After a good stretch of our legs we were off again to head home. The ride out was tough with a nasty head wind and took us about an hour. The ride home felt like nothing, though, and we mastered it in just under 40! A nice enjoyable lunch at Subway and we were back on the bikes for a much deserved trip to the elementary school playground for the kids. After a good 30 minutes of playing it was time to head home and get ready to go grocery shopping. All in all we logged just shy of 20 miles on the bicycles. Not too shabby for a non workout day!
The rest of our afternoon was spent cleaning the house, catching up on laundry, and grilling out. We had a very active weekend with lots of outside time and I'm still going to start the week with clean laundry and a clean house......that's my kind of weekend! ;-)
