Newest family member

This week we officially gained a new member of the family!  Over the last month or so we have been discussing that it might be time to get another dog.  We loved going a year with no pet responsibilities, but Brad and I both feel that having animals around can be very beneficial for everyone in a household.  We looked at a few rescues, but just didn't find a perfect fit.  Separately, a few weeks ago my cousin Susan, who is a dog groomer in Adel, was given a stray puppy that had been left at a retirement home in hopes that she could find him a new, permanent home.  Put the two together and what do you get?  A new puppy for the Beltmans!!  We picked him up just over a week ago to give it a "test run" and he has fit into our family just perfectly.  He is a tiny little thing at just over 1 pound with an expected adult size of 5-6 pounds.  Other than the usual "puppy trouble" as Sophia calls it, he is doing wonderfully.  We are diligently working on potty training and teaching him what is acceptable to chew on and what isn't, but know it will all come with time.  So, here's your official introduction to Hercules, aka Herky or Herk.
